Nubank: David Vélez and Cristina Junqueira stand out in international rankings

David Vélez was recognized by The Economist magazine as one of the five best CEOs. Cristina Junqueira was ranked first in the global ranking of Women in Fintech by FinTech Magazine

São Paulo, December 29, 2023 – David Vélez, CEO and co-founder of Nubank, one of the largest digital financial services platforms in the world, has just been recognized by The Economist, one of the leading economic publications in the world, as one of the top five CEOs of 2023. Alongside Vélez, the ranking published on December 28 by the British magazine includes executives such as Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) and Jensen Huang (Nvidia).

For the list, The Economist analyzed the performance of CEOs of companies listed on the S&P 1200 Index, which includes companies from the largest global economies, excluding China and India. Additionally, The Economist did not consider CEOs who have been in the position for less than three years. From there, the ranking evaluated executives based on the results they achieved and shareholder returns, taking into account the sector’s average. David ranked second in the categories of “approval,” with 93%, and “employee satisfaction,” reaching a score of 4.2 on a scale of 5. In the “shareholder returns” category, the Nubank founder ranked fourth with a score of 122.3%.

“I am honored to conclude a memorable year for Nubank with this important recognition from The Economist. In 2023, we delivered exponential growth and solid results, generating value for our shareholders, customers, and employees. I am particularly pleased with the ranking in the ’employee satisfaction’ index because all Nubankers’ dedication allows us to do all of this. We are already the fifth largest financial institution in Latin America, but it’s still day one. We will continue to be committed to efficient execution, grounded in a solid organizational culture, operational efficiency, and total customer focus,” says Vélez.

In its year-in-review issue, FinTech Magazine highlighted the recognition given to Cristina Junqueira, co-founder and CGO of Nubank. She was elected the first and most inspiring executive in the ranking of the top 100 women in the industry in 2023. The list, published in a special edition, recognizes women who are leading the industry and inspiring future generations. In addition to Cristina, names such as Sarah Garvey (Citi), Lori Beer (JPMorgan Chase & Co), Ghinwa Baradhi (HSBC), among others, were also featured.

“It is an incredible honor to receive this global recognition from FinTech Magazine. I extend it to all Nubankers because we wouldn’t have come this far without them. It has been ten years of hard work by an incredible and tireless team that dedicates themselves daily to building a company like Nu, which is revolutionizing the financial industry in Latin America. I am very happy to know that stories like mine and Nu’s have the power to inspire new generations, especially women, to pursue their dreams and believe that they are capable of transforming the world,” highlights Cristina Junqueira.
