Ultravioleta: Nubank expands its premium card offer and adds new features on the product’s first anniversary

With cashback benefits that grow at 200% of the CDI and never expire, Ultravioleta card customers now also have the option to invest in two funds from the Nu Ultravioleta family in the app

São Paulo, October 11, 2022 – Nubank, one of the largest digital financial services platforms in the world, celebrates the first anniversary of its premium card, the Ultravioleta. Since its launch, the card has had more than 1 million people on its interest list and more than R$ 2 million in growth on the cashback offer, considering that the money that comes back to the client on each purchase grows at 200% of the CDI. In this new product moment, Nubank opens the possibility for new customers to start their experience with the company with the Ultraviolet card – that is, not necessarily being a traditional card user. 


“Ultravioleta was born to break the paradigm around points accumulation, the most common format of benefits in premium cards in the market, which in most cases is neither advantageous nor transparent for customers. We developed a product so that our clients, who are the center of our business decisions, have the true power of choice”, says Cristina Junqueira, CEO in Brazil and co-founder of Nubank.

In a survey conducted by the company, 60% of customers stated that they prefer to use the Ultravioleta cashback as a long-term reserve since it automatically grows at 200% of the CDI (27.3% per year). The customer can track this growth through the app in a transparent experience, and the amount can be used how and when they want – either by transferring it to Nu’s account and using it in PIX payments, for example, or redeeming it in Smiles miles in a few taps. 

In this first year of the product, 25 million miles have already been redeemed, and most of the customers who have already used the cashback say that they have used it to buy fashion and electronic items, as well as for dining experiences.

“It’s a program of real, beneficial, immediate benefits, with a cashback that can be used when and how they want, and that never expires-these features are at the heart of what a new generation of higher-income customers want, who don’t identify with the high-income segments that have their parents as their focus.”, emphasizes Cristina Junqueira.

A new feature announced is access to the investment funds Nu Ultravioleta Multimercado and Nu Ultravioleta Ações. Both are composed of funds from some of the most renowned managers in the market – among them, Verde, Constellation, Bogari, SPX, and Absoluto Partners. The minimum investment starts at R$500 in each one of them, democratizing access to sophisticated investment products – considering that the minimum investment directly in these houses could reach up to R$50 thousand and some of them are closed for new investments at the moment. In September, the Nu Ultravioleta Multimercado showed a return of 1.96%, equivalent to 182% of the CDI. Since its creation, it has provided a return of 25.60% (171% of the CDI).

Besides the main cashback benefit, the Ultravioleta has an exclusive metal design and no numbers, which guarantees even more security for customers – since sensitive data is stored within the application. With limits compatible with premium cards in the market, the Mastercard Black card also has travel benefits, such as access to VIP airport lounges, insurance, and extended warranties for purchases made through it.

To have access to Ultravioleta there is no minimum income rule, but a credit analysis is performed – automatically at the moment of registration as a new client, and also monthly for those who are already a Roxinho card client. As soon as it is approved, a message is sent within the application and by email. The monthly fee is R$ 49, but the client becomes exempt whenever the monthly expenses are higher than R$ 5 thousand on the credit card or if he has more than R$ 50 thousand invested in Nubank – another new feature announced that will happen in the next 30 days since previously the value was from R$ 150 thousand invested.
