‘House of the Dragon’ takes over Brazil with 15-meter Syrax dragon atop Nubank’s iconic purple building in São Paulo
This initiative is part of the partnership between Nu and Max and celebrates the premiere of the second season of the drama series
Jun 13 , 2024
São Paulo, June 13, 2024 – In a striking confluence of fantasy and reality, a behemoth from the skies of Westeros has descended upon the bustling streets of São Paulo. A massive 15-meter replica of Syrax, Rhaenyra’s dragon from the acclaimed universe of the HBO Original series HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, has landed on top of Nubank’s iconic purple building on Avenida Rebouças in São Paulo. This majestic creature stands as the first and only of its kind in Latin America. This initiative is part of the partnership between Nubank and Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform, which is part of the advantages of Nubank+ and Ultravioleta, and celebrates the premiere of the second season of the series, launching on June 16 at 10pm BRT on Max and HBO.

“We are very excited to bring the magic and grandeur of the GAME OF THRONES and HOUSE OF THE DRAGON universe to the heart of São Paulo. Through this activation, we reinforce our entry as a brand into the pop culture territory. Bringing the dragon to the top of Nu is not only a celebration for the series’ fans but a demonstration of our partnership with Max. Together, we are creating an integrated experience for our customers, offering quality entertainment for them to enjoy their leisure moments through Nubank+, which offers 12 months of Max subscription included at no additional cost in the basic plan with ads,” says Juliana Roschel, Marketing Director at Nubank.
For Alessandra Pontes, Vice President of Distribution and Partnerships for Brazil at Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the installation of the iconic dragon representing Westeros’ universe symbolizes the strength of this partnership. “It is iconic that we bring to Nubank’s headquarters the ultimate symbol of power and fascination from the GAME OF THRONES and HOUSE OF THE DRAGON series. We celebrate this partnership in a unique way, which includes offering a Max subscription to Nubank+ and Ultravioleta customers, as well as experiences that will delight the public beyond the screens.”
This initiative represents the conflicts and tensions between the Black and Green Councils in the second season of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. In this dynamic, Nubank has pledged its allegiance to the Black Council, represented by the image of Syrax, Rhaenyra’s dragon.
Under the concept of the “Raise Your Banners” campaign for season two of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, cities all over the world are choosing allegiance in the battle of the Green versus Black Councils through CGI animations. The invasion has already begun in Brazil as Sao Paulo has pledged to the Black Council and the Green Council has taken over Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro. The takeover will continue in other countries, such as Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.
The visually arresting exhibition of the dragon results from the ingenious artist Fabio Alexandre, who, with dedicated precision and materials such as high-density styrofoam, water-based resin, fiberglass lamination, automotive paints, and crystal resin with UV protection brought the dragon to life after 20 days of fervent effort. Fans can see the piece for a month, until July 12.

Sir Nunoryus: How Nubank can simplify financial services, even in medieval kingdoms

What if there was a Nubank in a fantasy world? In addition to the dragon activation, Nubank presents Nunoryus, the Master of Finance who solves problems with solutions that break down bureaucracies and simplify the kingdom’s economy, just as Nubank makes life easier for its customers.
