The transformation process will begin the previous day with the technical migration of its app, with no impact on debit and credit cards operations.

Mexico City, July 23, 2026 – After completing a technology migration process and receiving authorization from the CNBV on July 10, Nu will become the country’s largest digital bank on August 6, serving more than 15 million customers.
“This milestone is a launching pad to continue closely accompanying our customers. Operating as a bank gives us the tools to evolve alongside them, maintaining the same essence, simplicity, and transparency as always, now with expanded possibilities. We remain committed to our ambition of becoming the most loved bank in Mexico,” said Armando Herrera, CEO of Nu México.
To complete the transition, on August 5 Nu will carry out a planned technical migration of its SOFIPO infrastructure, a necessary step for the change in regulatory status. Once that process is completed, Nu México will begin operating as a commercial bank institution.
During the migration window, scheduled between 5:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., certain services will be temporarily unavailable, including SPEI transfers and app access to check balances or download bank statements, for example. However, Nu Debit and Credit cards will continue to operate normally, and customers’ funds will remain secure at all times.
Nu reaffirms its commitment to protecting the customer experience. Therefore, it will directly notify its users via email and through the app one week prior to the migration window so they can schedule their transactions ahead of time. Likewise, during the scheduled app suspension period, users will be able to contact the support team via phone at: +52 55 9225 2622.
With this transition to full banking status, Nu strengthens its contribution to digital finance in Mexico, where it currently serves nearly 15% of the adult population. Since entering the country in 2019, its customers have saved approximately $48.5 billion pesos in fees, annual dues, and transfer costs, thanks to its simple and accessible financial model. This same model has reshaped everyday habits: nearly 60% of Nu customers report using less cash than before thanks to the company, and 86% rate Nu’s impact on their lives as “high,” highlighting greater financial stability and control.
