Nu Colombia turns five with 5 million customers and reinforces its long-term commitment to the country

The company celebrates 5 years of operations in Colombia with 5 million customers, more than 10 trillion pesos in deposits, and nearly 1 million people receiving their first credit card

Bogotá, May 26, 2026 – Nu Colombia announced today that it has reached 5 million customers in the country and plans to invest approximately COP $473 billion (~US$130 millon) in 2026. The announcement marks the fifth anniversary of the company’s local operations and reaffirms Nu’s long-term commitment to financial inclusion, competition, and the modernization of Colombia’s financial system.

Five years of financial transformation

Nu Colombia began operating in 2021 with a credit card as its first product, in a country where roughly 65% of the population had no access to formal credit. Over these five years, the company has become the first credit card in the lives of nearly 1 million Colombians, and today serves 5 million people — approximately 15% of the country’s adult population — with presence in 100% of Colombia’s departments and more than 95% of its municipalities, thanks to its fully digital model.

In 2024, Nu launched its digital account with Cajitas, changing the way Colombians organize and grow their money, and in 2025, expanded its portfolio with new credit access products. In early 2026, Nu surpassed 10 trillion pesos in deposits across accounts and CDTs, consolidated its position among the five largest financial institutions in the country, and delivered more than 1.1 trillion pesos in returns to its customers.

“Five million people in Colombia have chosen Nu. That’s 5 million reasons to keep developing products that improve people’s relationship with their finances. We’re also thrilled that nearly 1 million Colombians received their very first credit card with Nu. Our purpose will remain focused on driving financial inclusion and promoting competition,” says Marcela Torres, General Manager of Nu Colombia.

A bet on investment and growth

Nu’s growth in Colombia is built on continuous, long-term investment. Between 2024 and 2026, the company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the country, channeled into technology, talent, products, and the expansion of its platform.

The investment announced for 2026, more than COP $473 billion (~US$130 million), reaffirms Colombia as a long-term bet for Nu and supports an operation that has rapidly gained scale, depth, and relevance in the country.

A portfolio that has grown with Colombians’ needs

What started as a single credit card is today a complete and expanding portfolio, designed to support people throughout every stage of their financial lives:

  • Three credit card options (Morada, NuControl, and Abrecaminos — the latter designed to include those typically rejected by traditional banking).
  • Cuenta Nu with Cajitas (Money Boxes).
  • Nine CDT options.
  • Two types of personal loans, expanding access to formal credit with clear and transparent terms.

Nu’s arrival also accelerated a structural shift in the market: before 2021, interest-bearing accounts and free, instant transfers were rarely discussed in Colombia; today they’re an industry trend. Competition has translated into better options for everyone, not just Nu customers.

“We have long-term bets in Colombia, and we’ll keep investing to expand the portfolio that lets us open the door to more Colombians. We’ll also keep driving sector-wide initiatives to make it increasingly modern, competitive, and inclusive,” says Marcela Torres.
