Executive expands her role to lead regional operations as the company surpasses 135 million global customers and accelerates growth across all the markets where it operates
Jul 15 , 2026
São Paulo, July 15, 2026 – Nubank, the leading digital financial institution in Latin America, announced today that Livia Chanes will expand her role by taking on the position of CEO for Latin America, while also retaining her position as CEO of Nubank Brazil. Country Managers Armando Herrera, in Mexico, and Marcela Torres, in Colombia, will now report directly to her, while retaining operational autonomy in their respective markets.
The announcement comes as the company surpasses 135 million customers globally and receives authorization to operate as a bank in Mexico, where it will establish itself as the country’s largest digital bank. In Colombia, 5 million people have already chosen Nu, which is now present in 100% of the country’s departments. In Brazil, Nubank has been credited with revolutionizing the market and leads as Brazilians’ top financial institution across every region of the country, according to Bain & Company’s NPS Prism for the fourth quarter of 2025. Across Latin America, roughly 37 million people have entered the formal financial system through the platform: 31.5 million in Brazil, 4.7 million in Mexico, and nearly 1 million in Colombia.
“Thirteen years ago, we set out to prove that a bank could be simpler and built around the customer. It was in Brazil that we validated that model,” says David Vélez, founder and global CEO of Nubank. “Unifying the region under Livia’s leadership is a natural next step. The same barriers that limited financial inclusion in Brazil still persist across Latin America. Now we have the tools, the team, and the track record needed to overcome them faster.”
“My commitment is to ensure that Mexico and Colombia benefit from everything we’ve built in Brazil. This exchange accelerates innovation in every direction,” says Livia Chanes, CEO of Nubank for Latin America and Brazil. “We’re already the largest private financial institution by number of customers in Brazil, but we know we still have enormous opportunities to grow across our different segments. That remains our priority as a company. Every lesson learned will be put to work for the benefit of every person we serve across the region,” the executive adds.
Livia Chanes joined Nubank six years ago as Vice President of Products, took over the Brazilian operation in the second half of 2022, and became CEO of Nubank Brazil in early 2024. Under her leadership, the business in the country added more than 50 million new customers, reaching 115 million. During this period, the company also launched innovative offerings such as NuCel, its mobile phone service, which now has more than 1 million customers, new credit products, and the expansion of Nu Empresas, which reached 6 million customers — making Nubank the institution serving the largest number of businesses in Brazil.
The expansion of Livia’s role provides structural support to Armando Herrera, in Mexico, and Marcela Torres, in Colombia, who continue to lead their respective markets. In the first quarter of 2026, Nu Mexico reached break-even and now has 15 million customers, adding nearly 12,000 new customers a day. Nu Colombia marked five years of operation with more than 11 trillion pesos in deposits and $130 million in planned investments for 2026.
In Brazil, where it already serves more than 60% of the adult population, Nubank sees vast room for revenue expansion. To accelerate this monetization and broaden its product offering, the company has committed to investing R$45 billion ($8.2 billion) through 2026. In line with this steady growth, Nubank Brazil maintains its operational efficiency and service excellence, posting one of the lowest complaint rates with Brazil’s Central Bank among the country’s largest financial institutions.
