Nubank launches card with accessible experience in braille

Available for individuals and companies, the resource arrives on the market intending to promote inclusion and accessibility for customers who are blind or have low vision and use braille writing

São Paulo, February 23, 2023 – Nubank, one of the world’s largest digital financial services platforms, launches a new product for blind and low-vision customers – NuBraille. Available for individuals and PJ clients, NuBraille is an unprecedented card in the market, in which the user’s first name (or company name) and the last four digits are printed in braille directly on the card, making it easier to identify it and giving customers more autonomy.

The feature is intended to provide access and increase convenience for blind or low-vision Nubank clients and will be available on Roxinho cards – in gold and platinum Mastercard versions. In addition, a limited edition welcome kit with an audio chip will be sent to the first 5,000 people who request NuBraille; all other cards will be sent with a QR code that takes the customer to instructions that explain how to unlock it and also how to create virtual cards on Nubank’s YouTube channel.

“We understand the extreme importance and relevance of having a person’s name or their company printed in braille on the Nu card; after all, it reinforces the feeling of belonging and inclusion. NuBraille gives autonomy to our blind and low-vision customers and makes it easier to identify different cards, which is just the beginning towards an increasingly accessible experience”, says Rusen Baragiola, responsible for Nubank’s card area.

NuBraille was developed in collaboration with the company’s employees and with support from NuPlural, Nubank’s affinity group for people with disabilities. The new card is expected to be a mold for an even more inclusive experience and expand to other Nu products and services.

How to request NuBraille

For now, blind or low-vision customers with a Nubank card can request NuBraille by contacting our customer service team to make the replacement directly over the phone: 4020-0185 in state capitals and metropolitan regions, and 0800 591 2117 for other municipalities. For new customers, NuBraille will be offered at the beginning of the card application process, identifying people who use screen readers.
