Safe Carnaval: Nubank’s pioneering “Street Mode” already protects more than 5 million customers
This feature limits transactions outside of trusted Wi-Fi networks and allows partygoers to enjoy the festivities safely, along with other security tools

São Paulo, February 10, 2026 – Nubank, one of the world’s largest digital financial services platforms, is reinforcing its leadership in financial security by highlighting solutions designed to protect customers during high-exposure periods, such as Carnaval. Among these is Street Mode (Modo Rua), a pioneering feature launched by Nubank in 2022. Already activated by over 5 million customers, it allows users to limit transactions when away from environments considered safe.
By activating Street Mode in the app, customers define trusted Wi-Fi networks and set a maximum limit for transactions like Pix, TED (wire transfers), and bill payments when disconnected from those locations. This ensures that even if a phone is lost or stolen, the financial impact can be significantly reduced, providing more protection to enjoy the festivities.
“Carnaval is a time for celebration and taking to the streets. Our technology exists to keep up with this lifestyle and ensure security without complicating the customer experience,” says Emma Whitfield, Head of Fraud at Nubank. “This way, our customers can enjoy Carnaval with peace of mind, knowing their financial life is protected and that they will have total freedom to move their money when they are back home.”
In addition to Street Mode, Nubank offers Protected Pix, insurance against scams and fraudulent transactions made after the theft or robbery of a card or phone, including situations of coercion and purchases at fake stores. It can be contracted directly through the app and features international coverage of up to R$ 5,000 per year, with a monthly fee of R$ 6.99 and a limit of four occurrences annually.
Other protection tools offered by Nu:
- Scam Alert: A notification that warns the user—before completing a Pix or transfer—if the destination account is suspicious, allowing them to cancel or proceed with the operation.
- Smart Defenses: An AI-based system that identifies atypical behavior and triggers protection mechanisms, ranging from additional identity checks to blocking transactions.
- Verified Call: Allows customers to confirm within the app if a call claiming to be from Nubank is actually from the institution.
- Reporting Channel: Open to both customers and non-customers to report fraud or attempted scams where Nubank’s name is being misused.
- “I Was Robbed” (Me Roubaram): A platform to quickly block the app and cards in case of loss or theft.
All features are available in the app’s Protection Hub (represented by the shield icon), which brings together prevention, blocking, and transaction monitoring resources. Nubank’s customer service operates 24/7 via phone, chat, or email, ensuring continuous support.
