São Paulo, July 8, 2026 – Nu, the leading digital financial services platform in Latin America, is transforming how it builds products internally with the use of AI, and is one of the companies furthest ahead globally in its workflow reinvention. This is one of the first impressions of Nubank’s new Chief Product Officer, Carl Rivera, in his first weeks in the role.
In a new episode of the Nu Videocast, his inaugural interview since joining Nu in May, Rivera detailed his goals for the next phase of the company’s global expansion and how Nu aims to redefine banking with AI.
In conversation with Chief Technology Officer Eric Young and Chief Design Officer Ethan Eismann, Rivera highlighted platform thinking as the strategic lever for Nu’s expansion. Rather than building just country-specific products, Nu builds shared platforms that can be configured for local markets.
“We’re not trying to create a product that we deploy in the same way to every market. We’re building global platforms that identify the right levels of abstraction so it becomes faster to build fully localized products. From what I’m seeing already, that’s in the DNA of Nubank,” said Rivera.
In the conversation, Eismann detailed how the platformization efforts have been coupled with tangible steps towards an even better customer experience. “There have been meaningful improvements in performance, latency, and the engineering focus on screen layout and visualization that have come to the product in the last nine months,” the CDO states.
AI as the foundation
The conversation framed AI not as a feature layered on top of an existing app, but as the foundation for how customers will interact with their finances and how Nubankers work. “AI-personalized experiences across the globe are how we unlock customer love at that scale. It’s hard to get customers to love you fanatically — this is the path,” said Young.
Rivera pointed to personalization across modalities and the integration of those features as one of the levers the company will use to redefine banking through AI – with Nubankers transforming their roles, not only guaranteeing full human oversight, but also unlocking new strategic capabilities. Internally, he says, the workflow-reinvention mindset has already led to clear shifts, equally visible to newcomers and tenured Nubankers.
“I’ve been so impressed by how far along Nubank is on this journey already. We don’t do a good enough job to brag about this, but, from my vantage point, we’re one of the companies that is the furthest ahead in the internal AI adoption process and how it has completely transformed all of our workflows,” said Rivera.
